Rod Stewart to Perform in Israel

British singer Rod Stewart is set to perform for 24,000 people at Ramat Gan Stadium near Tel Aviv on July 1st. He previously performed in Israel in 1983. In an interview broadcast on Channel 1 TV, Stewart said he remembers Israel being "very, very hot, and we painted the stage white. The paint wouldn't dry and everybody had white paint all over their shoes."

The journalist interviewing him informed Stewart that 6th grade students in Israel learn his song "Sailing" for English class.

According to E Online, Stewart will visit Masada, the Dead Sea and the Old City of Jerusalem prior to his concert.

Yeshiva Hip-Hop Band "Shtar" Releases New CD

Ori M’Ori gave up rapping after he started attending yeshiva in Jerusalem. But it was a rabbi who encouraged him to continue. "He said it was a chillul Hashem, a desecration of G-d's name for me to stop rapping," said M’Ori. The young musician now raps Jewish inspired lyrics with Shtar, who have just released their debut CD.

Paris Museum Exhibits "Radical Jewish Culture"

A museum in Paris is holding concerts and exhibits about a New York Jewish jazz scene called Radical Jewish Culture. The musicians center around John Zorn, a saxophonist who began the Tzadik record label in the 1990s. Most of the music falls in the category of jazz and klezmer based on Jewish themes. American-Jewish musicians such as David Krakauer and Marc Ribot have been performing in Paris, France at the Musee d'art et d'histoire du Judaisme. The exhibit runs through July 18th.

American Rock Group "Gov't Mule" Performs in Tel Aviv

The American rock group Gov't Mule performed this weekend in Tel Aviv at the Reading 3 club. Before the concert they played two songs at the Mike's Place bar, which was the site of a terrorist attack in 2003. The band is comprised of members of the Grammy award winning group The Allman Brothers.

The band expressed no political opinions. In an interview with the Jerusalem Post's David Brinn, guitarist Warren Haynes said that due to travelling, he was unaware that other bands had cancelled their Israeli tour dates. Haynes stated, "I can see both sides of the issue, but unless you’re fearing for your safety, I think you should carry through on the shows that are booked. Our intention is to play for our fans, and it’s not politically motivated. It’s all about music and spreading happiness and joy."
